Chao Pinhole® Technique

A Breakthrough Treatment for Gum Recession
Advanced, Minimally Invasive Gum Surgery Alternative

Dr. Fred Sakamoto is one of a few dentists in Central Ohio who is trained to provide the revolutionary treatment for receding gums, the Chao Pinhole® Surgical Technique (PST). The Pinhole Surgical Technique™ is a scalpel-free and suture-free alternative to traditional gum grafting.

What is the Chao Pinhole® Surgical Technique (PST)?

The Chao Pinhole® Surgical Technique is a minimally invasive option for treating gum recession. Unlike traditional grafting techniques, PST is incision and suture-free. The “no cut, no sew” treatment for receding gums was invented by Dr. John Chao.

How is Chao Pinhole® Surgical Technique Performed?

During the procedure, Dr. Sakamoto uses a special instrument to make a small pinhole in the patient’s existing gum tissue. Through this pinhole, Dr. Sakamoto gently loosens the gum tissue and inserts collagen fibers to help stabilize the gum position.

There are no grafts, no sutures, and no incisions needed with the Chao Pinhole® Surgical Technique.

How Does the Chao Pinhole® Surgical Technique Differ from Traditional Gum Grafting?

Traditional gum recession treatments, also called gum grafting, involve soft-tissue grafts in order to rebuild the gum line. In many cases, the tissue grafts are taken directly from the soft palate of the patient’s mouth. This soft tissue is then sutured into place over the exposed gum line. As it heals, the grafted tissue grows with the with existing gum tissue.

Gum grafting treatment is effective in many cases. However, it is a more invasive technique for patients who require correction of gum recession.

Am I Candidate for PST?

If you show signs of gum recession, Dr. Sakamoto may recommend the minimally invasive PST procedure to restore your gums and promote tissue attachment. However, PST is not for everyone. Dr. Sakamoto will work with you to determine which procedure is best for your dental health needs.
