All-on-4® Dental Implants

What is All-on-4® Dental Implants/Teeth-in-A-Day?

All-on-4® Dental Implants is a procedure that allows patients to have surgery and replacement teeth all done in one day.  Many people also refer to these implants as Teeth-in-A-Day.

All-on-4As the name suggests, four dental implants will be placed for the All-on-4® Implant procedure; and, dentures will be immediately placed over top of the implants. These denture implants will utilize your available bone to provide bone level stabilization.  At Central Ohio Periodontics, Dr. Sakamoto recommends All-on-4® implants for patients who lack bone density or volume, because they typically do not require bone grafting.

Benefits of The All-on-4® Dental Implants Procedure

The recovery time for Dental Implant procedure is minimal, the price is affordable, and the results are long-term. In general, dental implants allow patients to enjoy all their favorite foods again. In addition, dentures supported by implants are easier to care for because you will no longer have to contend with the frustration of removable appliances. You can attain a beautiful, brand-new smile with denture implants in just one day and begin enjoying increased confidence and a better quality of life.

What to Expect During Your All-on-4® Dental Implants Procedure

Prior to starting the denture implants procedure, Dr. Sakamoto will numb the area to ensure that you do not feel pain or discomfort during the treatment. From there, he will place four implants in the areas with optimum bone volume. After the implants are placed, a temporary set of teeth are attached using a new or existing denture as the frame. Three to four months later, when the bone has completely integrated with the implant, Dr. Sakamoto will remove the temporary teeth and replace them with the new permanent set, securely anchoring them in place.

Key Differences Between Traditional Dental Implants and All-on-4® Dental Implants

Traditional dental implants cannot be disturbed for the first four to six months in order for them to heal. During the osseointegration process, the surgically embedded implant becomes firmly anchored by the growth of the surrounding bone. The tooth cannot be replaced until after this process is complete. Throughout this period, you may need to wear a bridge, denture, or even go without a tooth. While traditional dental implants have an extremely high success rate, this waiting period is one of the procedure’s chief drawbacks, particularly in emergency situations. Traditional dental implants also require at least two surgeries. During the first phase of the treatment, Dr. Sakamoto surgically places the implant. At the second surgery, which occurs after the four to six month waiting period, he uncovers the dental implant from beneath the gum line.

On the contrary, there is no waiting period required forAll-on-4® dental implants, which is why they also are referred to as Teeth-in-a-Day. Your missing teeth can be replaced with “immediate load” dental implants. This process only requires one surgery.  Dr. Sakamoto can set a restoration piece right after the implant has been placed, allowing you to walk out with a functional new tooth the very same day. In addition, the Teeth-in-a-Day procedure typically only takes about an hour. Imagine being able to leave the office with a beautiful new set of teeth in just one visit!
